We watched 'Oppenheimer' last night.
My grandmother grew up in Ljubljana, a devout Catholic; a teacher of deaf/blind kids. She married a Jewish Viennese physics professor who died on Krystalnacht. After WW2, her sons (a doctor and a physicist) brought her to America on the Queen Elizabeth where she marveled at the modernity and wealth in New York, then Los Angeles.
In the 1960's she looked up at the sky at an LAPD helicopter circling the neighborhood and proclaimed, 'Jesus Maria, that is a miracle,' but it sounded like - "Yaysooos Maria, das ist eine miraaahkle."

I can't help but wonder what she'd say about Russian deathstars being up there.

I know what her sons would say. As much as they relished joining the US Army to take revenge on the Nazis, they believed that teaming up with Germany to demilitarize Russia would have been a good move.
PS: My Uncle's PhD thesis in theoretical physics was reviewed by Einstein. He said of the occassion, "I believe he <Einstein> took pity on me.'
