I was 5 during Tet. I remember a war being on TV, and it kept interrupting Roadrunner (a sure way to torgue-off a 5-yr old).

To be fair, the situation there appears to be completely different. No foreign-supported aggressor in sight. No civil war (it ended over 100 years ago). I think it's more "war against drugs" thing...a bottomless pit into which endless money can be thrown with no real benefit.
