Like you said earlier, it's a meme stock. It moves in sync with Trump's political fortunes.

But which is the cause and which is the effect? Could someone buying up the stock improve Trump's political fortunes?

I think so. Hence the speculation of helping Trump politically by buying up his company stock. Right now, winning the Presidency may be more important to Trump than money. It's the quickest and most sure solution to many of his legal issues.
