Subject: Trump is losing it

Donald Trump
This week in spiraling.

The former president has settled into a nice little routine. He does a rally once or so a week, plays golf, does a postgolf news conference to talk about whatever is on his mind, and posts his face off all along the way. There was one post this week, though, that revealed the true depths of his spiraling over suddenly having to compete in this election. He claimed that a crowd photo from Harris’ rally last week in a Michigan airport hangar was actually fake. “There was nobody at the plane, and she ‘A.I.’d’ it, and showed a massive ‘crowd’ of so-called followers, BUT THEY DIDN’T EXIST!” he wrote on Sunday afternoon, right around lunch service at the club. “She had NOBODY waiting, and the ‘crowd’ looked like 10,000 people! Same thing is happening with her fake ‘crowds’ at her speeches.” We don’t like to bust out the superlatives with the big guy too often, but this claim—that there actually was no crowd at the Harris–Walz Michigan rally, that it was all staged and A.I.–generated—is one of the most insane things he’s ever said. To reiterate what we wrote last week, he is psychologically incapable of self-control when an opponent is regularly getting crowd sizes that match or surpass his, something that’s new to him after his previous campaigns against Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. He is at genuine risk of involuntary commitment if his staff allows him to watch the electric laser show planned for Harris at the DNC.
