So, no threat of invasion. No threat of tariffs. So, what did he gain for two weeks of drama?

Let me say that I think this was insanely dumb, but what he gained is probing the opportunity that Denmark and the EU would agree to give up Greenland in order to avoid a risk to the NATO alliance.

You can't get more than you ask for. If you ask for 80, you won't get more than 80. If you ask for 100, even if you think they'll only give you 80, then you might get more than 80. You don't know until you ask - and insist really, really hard.

It's dumb, of course, insisting on something like this ends up causing damage. But I don't think Trump sees it that way. He thinks he's awesome, so no one could possibly get upset about all this Greenland stuff - unless they're just inveterate Trump haters. He demanded the U.S. own Greenland, they were serious about saying no, so he let it go. They should be thanking him for saving NATO by not insisting on what he and the U.S. were obviously entitled to! Everyone's friends now, right? Right?
