This is one of the drawbacks of our divided system. Our elected representatives are at the state level. They're all beholden to toe the National Party line if they want to secure funding for their state - where they're elected.

It's the same with all small/less populated states. Our reps parrot the party platform lines while trying to claw back scraps from the budget table. The most populated states have the influence to get 10x / 100x $ what the small states get because they can influence the national electoral balance.

Murkowski (and others in similar situations) are faced with a Hobson's choice when a master of extortion and corruption like Trump is at the top of the political food chain.
