Never overlook the obvious. Perhaps it's simply because Mr Gates is sometimes a bit of a dick, especially in his business dealings?
It's not polite to say, but it's not exactly a secret. I've met the guy, though only super briefly. Does anyone remember Microsoft in the 1990s when he called all the shots? The corporate morals of a digger wasp. And, like any digger wasp, a well understood ecological niche that is just a normal part of nature. Even if some of the perfectly rational decisions are not suited to discussion in polite company.
