For me, there are two main concerns for the DG business over long term:
1. Merchandise price (used to be $1, now maybe $5) relative to shipping cost (which actually came down over the past decade due to technology and more efficient shipping network) will keep increasing, to a point where the business could be threatened by online shopping. Instance gratification works only on a subset of products.
2. "no scan, no cashier" technology may introduce new competitions, such as the Amazon Go store shown in video in previous post.
