Yeah, that saved his life. Apparently he was released from the hospital (I just checked). So it looks like he'll be OK.

Not a football fan anymore. Haven't been for many years. I was when I was younger, but have lost interest. I knew a lot of parents that wouldn't let their kids play football because of the dangers, which is why soccer (real football!) is gaining popularity. A much less hazardous team sport. I speculate that may be why men's US soccer is getting better...more kids are growing up playing. So the US men's actually made the World Cup last year (they lost, but made a surprisingly good showing).
