Back in the 1960s when I was a kid, my dad would rail against the influence that big oil had in US politics.

Nothing has changed.

There was persistent chatter, in the summer of 2024, that Trump told the assembled CEOs of "big oil", if they have him $1B, he would give them everything they want. So far, he has eased emissions regs, eased vehicle fuel economy regs, eliminated EV subsidies, and, now, targets foreign oil reserves. Pretty good payback, for a paltry $1B. These days, he would probably want $10B for these services.
