Subject: Re: Columbia deportations
Due to the "poor treatment" migrants are receiving under the Trump administration Columbia has refused to accept the return of migrants to their country.

What???
Colombian migrants are being mistreated by Trump, so Columbia will make Trump keep them where in theory Trump will continue to mistreat them. Sounds backwards to me.
As an aside. US foreign aid to Colombia has been substantial. So leverage exists outside of tariffs.

In 2025, the U.S. was due to provide almost US$380 million of financial support to Colombia, via an agreement that has been implemented since 1999 following the establishment of Plan Colombia by then-presidents Andres Pastrana and Bill Clinton. However, due to Trump’s executive order, this funding is now suspended.
Trump’s decision also puts at risk the support that Colombia receives through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Even before Trump’s announcement, USAID funding for development projects in Colombia had been reduced, following the US$410 million that was allocated in 2024.
The next 90 days will decide the future of U.S. financial assistance to Colombia, a source of support that for decades has been critical to the country’s fight against the drug trafficking, connected illicit activities, and illegal armed groups which contribute to ongoing conflict and insecurity.
