Subject: Nancy Maces's Scarlet Letter
The republican party has become nothing more than performative nonsense.

Rep. Nancy Mace showed up in the halls of Congress yesterday wearing a white t-shirt donned with a large red "A" across the chest. When asked what it meant, she said it was her Scarlet Letter.

"I'm wearing the scarlet letter after the week that I just had, last week, being a woman up here and being demonized for my vote and for my voice."

Wait wut?

Perhaps The Scarlet Letter, the 1850 novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne in which the protagonist, Hester Prynne, has to wear a scarlet letter A -- for "adultery" -- for having a child out of wedlock was banned in her schools when she was a student.

Mace was roundly criticized last week for voting to take the gavel from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. On Sunday, Mace told CBS that she was voting for Jordan due to his "values, his work ethic" but when asked about allegations that Jordan ignored sexual abuse that took place at the Ohio State wrestling team when he was an assistant coach there, Mace pleaded ignorance.

"I'm not familiar or aware with that," Mace said. "He's not indicted on anything that I'm aware of. And so I don't I don't know anything and I can't speak to that ... I don't know anything about that."

She should have just said the sunt would get her more clicks and eyeballs plus an appearance on Fox.

So today the House Republican Conference is gathering to anoint a new candidate for Speaker who can garner the necessary majority of votes to take the gavel. To do so, they are rewriting the rules for the election the day of the election after claiming the election was stolen in 2020 because states rewrote the rules for that election.

You can't make this stuff up.

Reportedly, they are taking the cell phones of elected officials when they go into meetings because they don't trust one another not to behave badly.

Well, at least the republican majority accomplished much before becoming entirely rudderless and confused.

Here's a list of the republican-led House of Representatives legislative accomplishment since winning the ruling majority:
