Does that mean you left NYC before 1970 or were born after 1985? Manhattan was not a very nice place in those years.

Give Giuliani credit, he did clean up the town. (Before he apparently went insane.) I understand there was some legally questionable stuff, but I've been twice the past few years, and Manhattan was great. Walked around, took the subway around...everything was relatively clean and lively. Good food, lots to see. I can't speak for the other boroughs as we didn't go there. And we never lived there (which is a different experience than visiting).
