I take Buffett at face value- I don't think he would blatantly lie.
In regards to apple- 'why did he really sell'
Very large position
Expensive
Geopolitical risk
Tax rate favorable
I think what he said holds true- its a great company, and 'likely' to be the largest equity position going forward unless something 'dramatic' happens. All true statements and if he ends up selling the whole thing, it was not a lie.
If he thought it expensive and even maybe can't figure out what the next five years looks like for a myriad of reasons, do you want him to advertise this? The tax rate is likely part of the reason, and as a shareholder I would prefer him to be as truthfully cryptic as possible.
