No one is required to meet contractual obligations. Usually. In rare instances - most often in contracts to buy and sell real estate - specific performance can be ordered by a court.
More typically, failing to meet contractual obligations simply means you become subject to the penalty clauses in the contract. I’m quite sure those cancelling performances in protest of the name change are well aware of that.
