Actually, Gemini does save conversations. Click on the left side of the window and you will see all your previous chats. You can "pin" the ones you want to keep as reference by clicking on the 3 vertical dots.

You can then resume the conversation at a later time although you will use fewer "tokens" if you start a new chat. Gemini can't remember details between chats unless you ask it to remember specifics. But if you continue a chat it can remember what it said earlier.
