Yikes! Thanks. I knew that I mis-typed the equation. Thankfully in the calculation I did include purchases of equity securities and sales of equity securities. However I did not put in the timing of the purchases or sales, which would have improved the calculation. Fortunately when the purchases and sales are small in comparison to the total portfolio value, the timing is not critical.
