Subject: Re: Control Panel: AI Frenzy again
and "information superhighway", that promised faster and cheaper communications. Seems, the AI hysteria is celebrating many, many, thousands of USians being put out of work. Are we sure that the aggregate impact of AI is a net positive for the economy?

Oh no, but then we never are. The “information superhighway” has led to tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of reporters, typesetters, delivery truck drivers, and others being put out of work. The Yellow Pages and the Sears Catalog no longer exist, major bookstore chains mostly collapsed, vinyl pressing plants and CD duplicators are a fraction of what they were a decade or two ago.

You can never tell. You really can’t predict what AI will destroy, or what new markets and services it will cause to be invented.

Then it will happen, and then it will be too late. ;)
