We sign up for the b-day gifts. Cafe Rio gives a free burrito, as I recall. It just appears in your app. Firehouse Subs also does something like that.

If you've moved back to the Phoenix area, I can tell you of some specials that don't require an app. Joe's BBQ, Caldwell County, etc. Just show your ID that it's your b-day.
