The people are supposed to choose their elected officials, not the other way around
As before a post about what Charlie said about shorting this provokes me to violate my intention to not post anymore.
In Germany the right-wing party Afd is on the rise and will probably become the governing party in this years elections in the states of Sachsen-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. What happened? The governing middle-left coalition in Sachsen-Anhalt passed a law which limits the powers of the next governments. They call it "Notfallregeln" (Emergency Rules).
This additional to since years ongoing tries to stop the Afd´s rise by trying to forbid the party itself, to exclude it from elections. I wonder what they´d say if the situation would be the other way around, the Afd governing Germany (at the current trend not an unlikely scenario) and trying to forbid the Green´s/Linke/SPD, the left parties.
Reminds me on an old saying: "If the voter doesn´t vote the way he has to, choose new voters" or similar.
I would never have thought that one day the US could go in a similar direction, THE country of the rights of the individual and of free speech***.
***Freedom of speech always by law was much more limited in Germany than in the US, but in the last years under the leftish government far more so. E.g. as difficult as that might be to believe for an American citizen: There is now a law under which if a biological man claims to be a woman and you reply "Sorry, you are a man" he (she?) can successfully sue you for denying him (her?) his (her?) sexual "identity" 😂
P.S.: I am not sure whether a laughing smiley is appropriate, as this is a rather tragic than laughing matter 😒
