This is true. Southern DINOs would not go near the GOP, because of Lincoln and the "war of northern aggression". Saint Reagan turned them to the GOP with racist dog whistles.

Nixon started turning Southern Democrats to the GOP in the late 60s/early 70s with his Southern Strategy. Reagan merely finished the job.
