It wasn't a strategy. He broke the law. He was convicted of it in a court of law (and he had what he considered competent counsel). He should have faced the consequences like you or I would have had to do. The only strategy was duping enough Americans to reelect him so he could avoid prison for the charges stemming from Jan 6. We'll never know how that would have turned out, though the guy building the case seemed to think it was going to be a slam-dunk.
