They were blathering about "SEVERE WEATHER", again.

ABC, NBC and CBS all do that. It's the catastrophizing of the news in an attempt to hook viewers. That, plus the endless exhortations to "find out what they're now saying after the break". The "big three" are barely worth watching at all. CBS tried to break that mold with its attempt to have more serious co-anchors of the CBS Evening News (with John Dickerson and Maurice Dubois) but it only lasted about a year before it reverted to the now standard formula.
