how much of their programming is based on pure and simple greed.

Almost all, and I include all the for-profit media in Shinyland. I have been ranting, for several years, about the media being more interested in hype and hysteria, than in actually informing the public. Remember when the "news" did not have a segment shrieking about "severe weather" every day? Remember when the "news" did not hype everything as "BREAKING NEWS", including things they had already been yammering about for days? Remember when the "news", was not spinning everything as "shocking", "alarming", "scary", or "wild"? The up and coming thing now seems to be "emotional". Smells like McKinsey selling everyone the same game plan, again.

Starting a year ago, the local Detroit media openly admitted it was all in on the "Lions hype train". yap, Yap, YAP. Seems that Sheetz, a 24/7 truck stop chain has paid the local media to hype it constantly. Every time Sheetz applies for a permit for a new station, the "news" reports it. Every time people push back on having a 24/7 truck stop in their residential neighborhood, the "news" reports it. Every time the city commission denies Sheetz' permit, the "news" reports it. Any excuse to run their stock footage of what a Sheetz is, is seized by the media. yap, Yap, YAP. Every new restaurant that opens is covered as "news". yap, Yap, YAP

Shinyland: all hype, all the time.
