Funny story, I happened to watch "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" today, starring Robert Downey Jr and Val Kilmer. IIRC Val Kilmer told the writer/director (Shane Black) to tailor the part for Robert Downey Jr as he was struggling with addiction and wanted to get out of its hold. And Kilmer wanted to help.
Kilmer was a good guy. Went to Juilliard.
The movie itself is fantastic, very witty writing. Highly recommended.
