Unlike the exceptionally shiny US, France *is* a party to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, so it does have UN authority, if not an obligation, to seize tankers that violate the treaty.

Fascinating that this board keeps rooting for Putin.

You need to say "root'n for Putin", to mimic the rhymy tag lines the media always tries to use, like "stranger danger". :^)
