Subject: Re: TIPping
You obviously didn't watch the video. He addressed most of what you just said, both pro and con. IMHO, the con outweighed the pro.
Again- if our servers are paid higher wages, YOUR price ----goes *up*. So what's the difference?
Again, addressed in the video. But I'll address this specific point. The answer is "none", even if people perceive it differently (a study also covered in the piece). But, there is a difference from the server's side. Between cheap bastards and "tip sharing", some get almost nothing. They'd be better-off staying at home and collecting welfare.
IMO, sub-minimum wage should not be allowed. And, yes, I want my server properly compensated. I suspect you'd call me a "lib", and I do not begrudge paying for service as part of the price of my meal. And if they're really good, I'll tip more.
Side note: a lot of local establishments have increased their wages, and now don't expect tips. Not even a tip jar, or credit card prompt, or anything. Some you have to ask if you can tip. Just had a banh mi earlier this week, and that was the situation. After getting a haircut nearby, where that also was the situation.
