Thinking about how Trump got so many people to follow him, I was reminded of one of my favorite movies, The Forbiddem Planet. A brilliant study of the power of pschological projection. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

The thing about projection is when one points the finger, there are always three fingers pointing back to the pointer.

Think about many Republicans, as a group, their anger summoned Donald Trump. Donald Trump said, "I love the poorly educated." He said that. Not "I'm going to help them learn;" Not, "I'm going to make it possible for them to understand how education and critical thinking is the only way better to understand reality and use the laws of that reality to make your lives better." No, he likes them poorly educated and easily fooled. And so, he appealed to the lizard brains. The primitive brain that is reactionary and selfish and impulsive. That doesn't require learning or understanding or evaluation, just anger, impulse and reaction. Just blame and retaliation and never, ever self-reflection, patience or learning and taking responsibility. Never ever cooperation and long-term thinking. Never ever the greater good. Selfishness and survival instincts. Dog eat Dog. Even their chosen symbols are of death and torture: A man nailed to a cross.

If i were a Christian, I would have have as my symbol that of compassion and peace, not carnage and death. As a humanist, I prefer those symbols as what go before me rather the one of torture. And being a humanist does not preclude respect and awe for the laws of nature. A person's life works better when they observe the laws of reality. And cooperation and compassion work better than hate and destruction.

From the very beginning, Donald Trump's vision of American Carnage has been a projection of his own inner thougths onto America. What ever he points his finger at, there are three fingers always pointing back to himself. But like a good magician or scammer, distraction is his protection:
