On the other hand, Putin knows how easily Trump can be manipulated, so he has undoubtedly promised Trump something

Come to think of it, a possibility comes to mind.

The first comes straight out of the opening scene of The Godfather. Bonasera comes to Vito Corleone, asking for help getting revenge against the men who assualted his daughter. Corleone agrees, but asks for unwavering loyalty in return.

Trump goes to Putin, asking for help getting revenge against Zelenskyy who dishonored Trump by failing to announce an investigation into the Bidens. Putin agrees, but asks for unwavering loyalty in return. On the side, Putin didn't like Ukraine anyway, so he's more than happy to invade. But he's got the pledge of loyalty from Trump and only asks that Trump parrot Putin's talking points from time to time.
