I haven't watched a debate in several cycles.

To be honest, I think the whole idea of debates is an outdated one. Before the internet and cable TV, the only real way to see a candidate in action was to have a debate and watch them on national TV. Any campaign rallies got sparse coverage at best. The most you might see is a 20 second clip on one of the national news programs.

Today, you can watch every rally - most of them live, and virtually all of them archived somewhere on line. We no longer need nationally televised debates to see the candidates talking about their positions.

And in the instant case of the current presidential candidates, one of the candidates makes a mockery of the entire concept of a debate. He can't even do an interview with a somewhat hostile panel of interviewers without resorting to insults and failing to actually address the questions asked.

There is no reason at all to lend any legitimacy to Trump by standing on the same stage with him. Harris should run her own campaign, talking directly to the voters. And she should do an interview with Fox or another right-wing news outlet, just to get in front of some people that might not see her otherwise.
